Returners / Intermediate Pattern Cutting Course
The Jacket Project
Make your own jacket pattern during this returners/intermediate course that builds on skills in the production of more complex blocks and patterns including elements such as collars and pockets.
During the course you will learn how to adapt a basic body block to create kimono and raglan sleeve blocks. In addition to building on existing skills in pattern adaption using an increasingly ambitious combination of pattern cutting techniques, you will be introduced to the development of patterns for garment details including collars, pockets, facings and linings. You will experiment half and full scale with techniques introduced to explore your ideas and produce final full scale finished patterns. Sample pieces can be made as required and you will construct a toile/ mock-up of your pattern to check the pattern accuracy, construction techniques and fit. Although sewing will be utilised during the classes the emphasis of this course is on pattern cutting - If you would like help with sewing or making up a finished garment from an existing pattern, you can read about the sewing classes here.
To attend this course, you do need some prior experience of pattern cutting including making a block and adapting it. It is ideal for students who have attended the full pattern cutting course or both the beginners Block Pattern and Creative Pattern Cutting short courses. You can read about the content of the block pattern and creative pattern cutting courses here or contact Lisa for advice if you aren’t sure if the course is right for you.
All equipment, tools, spot and cross pattern paper, card, calico and haberdashery are provided.
Course dates: January 2025 (exact dates tbc)
