The Sewing Room @ The Island
The Sewing Room at The Island is a pattern cutting and sewing studio based in the heart of Bristol. It offers a range of classes and workshops in pattern cutting, garment construction, stitched textiles and fashion design. One to one tuition and consultations are also available for all levels of experience.
There are monthly studio memberships available. Members can benefit from a well resourced working space and opportunities to work creatively together and learn from each other. You can read more about memberships here

About Lisa
Lisa manages the studio and delivers the courses and 1:1 tuition. Initially studying Fashion in London in 1986 Lisa moved to Bristol to complete her degree in 1989 and has lived in the city ever since. She worked in several areas of the industry, including running her own fashion label that was sold through independent retail outlets as well as exhibiting at The Clothes Show Live and trade shows. She is experienced in producing bespoke bridal wear and worked for two bridal wear companies based in Bristol. Skilled in working with leather she is particularly fascinated with up-cycling leather using old discarded garments to make new ones. Lisa is experienced in co-ordinating fashion shows and has worked with a broad range of creative practices, presenting and exhibiting work including various community projects.
Lisa holds a PGCE and taught fashion to a broad range of levels in post compulsory education for over 20 years (FE & HE). She offers consultations, private tuition, trouble shooting tutorials and delivers the group classes at The Island.
