Stitched Textiles Course
Learn a range of creative stitched textile techniques that you can apply to various projects including clothing upcycling, clothing repairs, textile art and generally explore the use of stitch as a medium to create art.
In addition to those with a preference for clothing or textiles for fashion or interiors; this course is also a great way for artists wishing to broaden their medium of work to incorporate textile techniques as an exciting new element in representing their ideas.
The course includes an introduction to a broad selection of exciting techniques such as drawing using various lockstitches, free machine embroidery, applique, vanishing muslin and bonding /fusing fabrics .
You will be introduced to all the techniques in isolation then be encouraged to complete a final piece exploring a combination of techniques that can be applied to a final piece of your choice. Examples could include a broad range of outcomes and we can decide on those as the course progresses examples may include - an upcycled garment, i.e back of a denim jacket or decorated shirt, a wall hanging, graphic text for a banner, a stitched drawing to be framed or a simply a very special tea towel!
There will be a range of imagery available for you to use as inspiration, although you are very welcome to bring your own artwork or images to use. You may wish to consider developing your ideas on a theme of personal interest to inspire you, such as urban or rural lansdscapes, natural form such as flowers, portraits, life drawing, architecture, graffiti, signs and symbols etc, inspiration is endless.
This course is suitable for complete beginners and you will be shown how to set up and use the sewing machines and use all the other available resources.
Sewings machines (with drop feed), and all other equipment, fabrics and haberdashery are all provided but you are also welcome to bring your own fabrics and other materials if you wish.
