Pattern Cutting - Block Patterns
This course is suitable for both complete beginners and returning students and effectively compliments the Creative Pattern Cutting course.
This short course will introduce you to the method of flat pattern cutting to create a ‘block’ pattern. Beginners start with a skirt block (or another simple garment as agreed with the tutor). Returners/intermediate students can attend this course to develop more complex block patterns such as a fitted bodice or coat block.
During the course you will draft a block pattern, trace it off, add seam allowance and cut and make a calico toile (mock-up) to check the fit.
The block pattern can be made to your own measurements or a standard measurement e.g size UK 12. If you would like to make patterns for someone else, this is possible but please contact Lisa in advance as we need to ensure you bring the correct measurements to the first session.
This course is a very good introduction to making your own block patterns and as mentioned above it's also suitable for returners who wish to develop more complex blocks.
Once you have made your own block patterns you can then adapt them to your own ideas with the fit always remaining the same. If you would like to learn how to adapt block patterns ( e.g moving darts and adding seamlines), you can attend the Creative Pattern Cutting course.
